Distantly Yours logo Flash demo
This demo was inspired by a conversation I had with a friend about getting objects to move when the mouse moves, but not necessarily in the same direction. I realized a great application for that concept would be to make an interactive version of the design I created for my business card.
When you drag the mouse over the flash movie, the cursor becomes the light source, and you can manipulate the highlights and shadows accordingly, in real-time.
Creating an interactive optical illusion
What made this project fun for me was the way it allowed me to take the 2D optical illusions I use in my logo and make them interactive.
It was fun to take a break from programming PHP and program something that interacts with you in real-time. I also had a lot of fun writing mathematical equations to control the location and size of the shadow. Math was never that much fun in high school.
